What's good

  • Plain root, dose printed
  • Pennies a serving

What drags it down

  • Label serving is half the trial dose

The verdict

Cheap, plainly labelled, and dosed at half of what was studied. Maca is the one ingredient here with a placebo-controlled result that isn't about blood flow: over 12 weeks, men taking 1,500 or 3,000 mg reported more sexual desire, and the researchers specifically checked testosterone and found no change. At $0.09 a serving, two capsules put you at the bottom of that range for under twenty cents. The label carries one ingredient at a stated amount, which in this category still counts as a distinguishing feature.

What the label actually delivers

One capsule, 750 mg of organic maca root powder, in a cellulose capsule. Nothing else on the panel. The trials start at 1,500 mg, so a label serving is half a studied dose — the 180-capsule bottle is really 90 servings if you dose the way the research did. (Gonzales et al., 2002)

Who it's for

Someone who has read what maca was tested for and wants the plain root at that amount, for pennies. What the evidence covers is self-reported desire in healthy men over 12 weeks. It says nothing about testosterone — the same trial looked and found none — and nothing about erectile function.
